6 Steps to Green Smoothies and my 'Choc Pump Smoothie!'

Getting up at 5.30am on a stormy (Summer!?) morning to pump some weights and bike ride isn't easy. But once you get going and get the music pumping you don't regret it! While getting up and going is the first important step, refueling afterwards is vital!!

While being engulfed in the wonderful benefits of smoothies i came across a number of inspiring Green Smoothie recipes. They all follow a 6 basic step recipe...

1. Choose your leaves - kale, silver beet, cos lettuce, spinach
2. Choose your base - water, coconut water, apple juice
3. Choose some fruit - banana, apple, pear, kiwi, mango
4. Add some zing - lemon, lime juice
5. Add some kick - spirulina, maca powder, cacao powder, bee pollen
6. Blend!

There are so many wonderful combinations you can mix and match to find your perfect green smoothie! So after coming home quite hungry i was inspired by a 'Chocolate Warrior' Green smoothie recipe i found from the Wellness Warrior with banana and cacao powder and changed it to suit what i had and added some more protein to make it more of a post-workout smoothie! And it was to die for... In other words it is my motivator to pump more iron to come home to this!! I am calling it my 'Pump Choc' Smoothie!

A handful of spinach leaves
1 ripe banana (or frozen)
2 large Mejoong dates
1 Tbsp Chia seeds
2 tsp Cacao powder
1/2 tsp maca powder
1/4 cup pea protein powder
1 cup water
Optional topping: Raspberries

Method
1. Wash and prep all ingredients.

2. Chop banana and pitted dates into chunks.

3. Add everything to blender and whiz until smooth.

Into the blender
4. Top up with water if needed.

5. Serve immediately and top with frozen raspberries or blueberries

Choc Pump Smoothie... Yum!
I was missing step 4 so if you have some lemon or lime around maybe give the juice a go in this one to add your zinggggggg :) But that didn't stop me from finishing it...

Why is the Smoothie all gone!?
The other day i also tried a Rock melon Green Smoothie. While this turned out it doesn't compare in taste to the Choc Pump but i will tell you what i put in it all the same, plus documenting trials and errors make the foundation for better smoothies in the not too distant future!...

Extra notes:
Apart from an abundance of nutrition and increased absorption, the green smoothie also acts as an alkalising cleansing buddy. Most green smoothies can be enjoyed on a daily basis and will add to your wellness regime, but there are some that may contain a bit too much fruit and other fun sweet stuff that are best enjoyed as a bit of a treat on occasion. Too much sugar (even natural sugars) you can turn the smoothie from an alkalising cleansing buddy into an acidic blood sugar booster. If the recipe
contains more than one or two portions of fruit, it is best enjoyed on occasion. If the ratio is more greens than fruit, itʼs good to gulp down every day!
