Banana Chai Muesli (and Smoothie) - Raw

I absolutely LOVE Chai, i have never been able to drink coffee (which is good meaning i can never get addicted apart from the smell!) so when the girls and i go out for coffee i have Chai tea or if i fee like a treat, a Chai latte! When i found a recipe to make your own Chai spices i sure could not resist and incorporated it into my raw muesli with banana... i was in heaven!!!

Banana Chai Muesli

This recipe is similar to my Choc-banana muesli but minus the cacao and add a teaspoon of mixed Chai spice!

Chai Spice Mix (yields about 1/3 cup spice mix)
2 tbsp. ground ginger
1 tbsp. ground cinnamon
2 tsp. ground cloves
2 1/2 tbsp. ground cardamom
2 tsp. nutmeg
2 tsp. allspice
1/2 tsp. white pepper

Mix all spices together, and store in tupperware or a sealed plastic bag and its ready to use!

Ingredients
1/4 cup steel cut oats

2 teaspoons Chia seeds
1/3 cup water (or almond milk if you have some!)
1 teaspoons mixed Chai Sices
1 ripe banana
1 tablespoon pepitas
1 tablespoon chopped almonds
1 tablespoon shredded coconut
2 dried apricots chopped
1 teaspoon LSA (optional)
Honey to drizzle

Methods
Soak the oats and Chia seeds in the water (or almond milk) overnight.
In the morning mix in the Chai spice and chopped banana...

Then add the almonds, pepitas, dried apricots, coconut and LSA and mix...

Place in a serving bowl and top with left over chopped banana and a drizzle of honey!

Yum :)

Another idea for the Chai mix is a Banana Chai Smoothie!

1 heaping teaspoon Chai spice mix (recipe above)
1 1/2 large bananas, fresh or frozen (or 2 small)
4 ice cubes
2/3 cup almond milk
1 tbsp almond, cashew, or coconut butter (optional!)

Combine all ingredients in a blender and blend till smooth.

Top with cinnamon or homey and all will be right in the world, can't wait to try this one when we next have almond milk!

The Chai spice mix will also be a great alternative to sugar as the wonderful spices take over any lack of the sweet stuff detected. You will never want to go back to commercial Chai after making your own! Its just a win - win situation all round :)
