Raw Esperance Treats and Travels - Rejuvenate with Raw

My mum and i have set off on a little get away with our two little dogs to stay with my Grand dad in Esperance - Yay! It is a long drive, 8 hours in total with a few break stops to stretch our legs and let the dogs out. But you know what a long drive means? You need to be properly fueled up with the best food possible... Green and Raw!!

So although it took an extra 10 minutes, mum made her delicious green smoothies for us to take on the road, mine couldn't have come at any better time than half way through after a warm Lake Grace petrol stop! Our chopped carrot, celery and capsicum, apples and cherries were so refreshing to munch on too :)

Chopped vege's to munch :)
Lake Grace Roadhouse... my fuel!
I have a new found mission each time i visit a new (or old) place, i find myself hunting down any health food shop, health food cafe or equivalent and find what delicious and nutritious delights i can! While google and true local knowledge made my mission not so possible in Esperance, my mum and i came across a littl shop hidden away in some old little buildings... it was called Naturally Esperance! Inside were a range of health and beauty products from facial scrubs, teas, yoga and meditation products, tinderbox and a few superfoods such as cacao powder and granolas! Success our hidden Esperance gem!

But what was more exciting was talking to the lovely lady at the counter, so bright, bubbly and friendly and my mum and i were excited to be talking away to her with our similar passion and exploration of health and nutrition! She inspired me to keep going with my raw food and also added to a little flame burning within me to learn and practice yoga for both the body and soul. Talking about India being the heart of yoga made me dream of one day practicing at a retreat over there and feeling the wonderful stretch and energy of the yoga poses! As we also talked about raw foods she handed a video for us to watch, one she had found the other day call 'Rejuvenate with Raw - the raw food connection' by Karen Bartz who owns an organic health cafe called Soul Tree in Perth... how had i not known this in my past 4 years living there!?

She has a website - called 'Teach the World Raw' which i am in the process of exploring :) From her DVD i wanted to jot down a few keepsakes to remember...

"The body is the most amazing piece of machinery, do you know any appliance that can heal itself and live for over 80 years?"

"The difference between cooked and raw... plant a cooked almond and a raw almond in the ground, the cooked will shrivel up into mold while the raw will grow an almond tree for many years to come :) try it yourself!!"

"Raw food can save the world!! Bit by bit once you start introducing raw you will increase your health and energy, you will feel the difference and make further steps to enhance your world, buy less meat, invest in a compost bin, grow your own vegetables and fruits... you are not just saving yourself but bit by bit you are helping to save the world!"

"You will observe with concern how long a useful truth may be known and exist, before it is generally received and practiced on" - Benjamin Franklin

"If you go 80% you get 80% back but if you go 100% you get 1000% back!! Food combining is important to going raw to not overwhelm your system unless you are on a detox."

"Reeducate your body and taste all different foods, your body will learn what nutrition is in each different foods and you will learn what your body craves when you need certain nutrition and be able to eat according to your bodies needs :)"

The lady also went on to make cauliflower sushi, raw pizza and raw fruit cake in front of us, so easy and full of ideas! Funnily enough i switched to my Facebook and found a friends recent post on...

"Just ate fresh coconut straight from the husk, tastes weird. I think we are so used to artificial flavours that we forget what it actually tastes like"

And this is so sad but true!! Oh how i wish people would eat more fresh and wholesome foods again and experience the wonderful tastes and flavours! Certainly, some may not wish to alter their eating patterns or lifestyle, this is a personal choice we should all be allowed to make but sadly few are made aware of the choice. When people ask me “So as a raw-fooder, what do you eat?” I will say "the best food I have ever tasted!"

Thank you lovely lady at the little Esperance Gem :) please visit Naturally Esperance when you visit Esperance WA! Our little town visit left us finding many more health products for more inspiration...

Mum and i were contemplating on taking our own juicer to Esperance... but another little gem was discovered!! A little fresh fruit and vegetable juicing van sets up along the beach front in town everyday delivering wonderful freshly squeezed juices - who says you can't be healthy on a holiday?? It was bliss :) it was lovely to see it so popular in the heat with all the tourists too!

S'Juicing van :)
Juicing ladies!
I am now content....
A morning bike ride to the Esperance Jetty was a wonderful start to the day, and with a few bits of site seeing at the Esperance Stone Henge how could we resist practice our yoga on the alter?? The Henge itself is a replica of the one in the UK and is amazing up on the hill overlooking Esperance, very serene at sunset :)

Keeping up our health whilst travelling we do pretty well with mostly raw lunches bar a couple of rice crackers to hold our veges! I have found pop's blender and still enjoy my banana chia seed porridge for breakfast... yum :)

I look forward to trying our next juice at the juice van whilst having some R&R on the beach!
