My Raw revolution at The Raw Kitchen - Fremantle

A few months ago i visited a Perth Food and Wine convention at the Perth convention centre. At a Woolworth's Macro display there were demonstrations by various cooks, one of them was Kemi Nekvapil.
Kemi is a raw food advocate born and raised in London and has become one of Australia's most popular advisors on eating raw by simply encouraging people to ‘add more raw’ to their regular diet. Kemi was a successful actress but missed the kitchen so worked as a baker and chef, became a yoga teacher in Thailand and India and then a cook in London's first organic restaurant. Around this time, she read a book about the benefits of eating raw food. Initially skeptical, she decided to try it for herself and after two days of substituting her regular lunches with a generous raw salad her energy levels were noticeably higher.

kemisrawkitchenIn 2003, Kemi moved to Melbourne with her Australian husband. Kemi started learning more about raw food, and was delighted to discover just how diverse raw food options were: pasta, chips, noodle dishes and even cake ... A passion for growing organic produce and eating raw food was ignited.

In 2010, she set up Kemi's Raw Kitchen to offer raw food cooking classes and personal consultations. Her classes have proved to be hugely popular and her recipes have been featured in national newspapers like The Age and The Sydney Morning Herald. In 2012, she presented her raw food recipes as part of the Woolworth's Macro Stage at the Good Food and Wine Show (where i saw her!). That same year, she also unveiled her 'Raw Beauty’ events and retreats for women seeking to recharge and get back to nature.
Also a busy mum Kemi has since introduced countless Australians to the amazing health benefits of eating more raw fruits and veggies. Check out her site!! Kemi's Raw Kitchen To go to one of her raw retreats and cooking classes over east would be a dream! I am saving up now, fingers crossed i can get there soon!!

After watching Kemi blend up a delicious Raw green smoothie and muesli, it came up that there was a wonderful Raw Kitchen cafe in Fremantle that some people (myself included) did not know about! It took a while for me to find a time between medicine commitments to venture to Fremantle to have a look, but once i did i wished i had known about it 4 years ago when i first came to study in Perth!

I went with mum parents and the cafe was buzzing! It was hard to get a table but the turn over of people was enough for us to sit on the lovely wooden tables and chairs. Next was the hard part, deciding what to eat! I loved the idea of a raw pizza and salad, while my mum had raw nacho's. I was so amazed at how the base was raw! But it was absolutely delicious and so fresh!

We then stayed for some Raw Chocolate cheesecake and drinks. I had a Chai with cashew-macadamia milk and honey and it was the best Chai i have tasted! The cheesecake was to die for with cherries on top and dad's strawberry-almond milk smoothie... yum. Needless to say i soon joined the rest of the crowd wide eyed and marveling at the amazing raw food in front of us and became hooked! This was the beginning of my Raw food revolution.

All i can say is if you have not tried a Raw food cafe, please do! You will not know what hit you and if you are like me you will become hooked. One day i will get a dehydrator and make my own raw pizza, pasta, nacho's and all the other glorious raw delights but for now incorporating raw salads and breakfasts into my day with simply a knife and a blender is all i need :)
