Real Food for Dogs and Cats - A New Beginning

If you thought we as people treat ourselves bad with processed and packaged foods, what about our pets namely our cats and dogs? Most of the time they do not even get a say in what they wish to eat! I have been inspired by my friend who is the best mother to a little Daschund that i have ever seen! Her puppy is around 11 months old now, so full of energy, so in love with her mum (and vice versa!) and a true picture of doggy health. While first starting out giving her puppy the usual processed biscuits and meats she then investigated nutrition and diets for dogs particularly after her little one had a few trips to the vet for unknown troubles, possibly allergies? What she came across was a book called 'Real food for Cats and Dogs' by Clare Middle which has changed her (and her little puppy's) perspective on a dogs diet especially when they are only young and still growing! And he puppy LOVES the diet, i have seen her go crazy jumping up the bench as high as her little legs can take her in excitement for her meals of fresh foods similar to a healthy human diet. Basically the more fresh and wholesome the doggy diet is, the more it resembles the animals natural diet and the greater the nutrition of our pets which can result in increased energy, glossy coat, cleaner teeth, greater well-being and arguably greater longevity.

I would like to introduce you to two little (or not so little!) cross poodles who are 7 years old and are about to start a 'Real food' doggy diet...

This is BellaWeight - 8.9kg
Bella is what we call a 'spazoodle', she loves feathers, playing at the beach, games with dad at night with pig ears and loves to explore outside and chase lizards. She can be shy and timid with other people and dogs but full of life with us. She is always excited for walkies but when the time comes she lags behind, a total change from her jumpy self at the beach! She has recently been leaving portions of her food in her bowl, she seems well but we do not know if she is bored of her usual canned doggy dinners and chicken wings or if something is not right... maybe this real food diet will help her back on her way :)

Say hello to LucyWeight - 10.2kg
Lucy in another life would be a sloth. She loves nothing more than to sprawl out on a couch, blanket or a pair of warm legs. Her favourite game is 'sharkies' where she lays on her back or side and hides her eyes while you blow on her face waiting for her to pretend to nip you. She is very faithful and loving but a terror to walk, give her a couch and biscuits any day! Recently she has been told by the vet she needs to lose a kilo, the problem is she loves her (processed) food and lacks the energy or will for walkies except when we let them off at the beach once a week. A change to a real food diet may be the answer to her weight issues and lack of energy, we love you dearly Lucy and we want to get you healthy to keep you as long as we can!

So the other day i ordered the book online and it came!! What's ahead of us is a little read of the book, a trip to the shops and the real food diet for doggies begins! I cannot wait to see what we can do for our beloved family members! Stay tuned to as i read, learn and watch our doggies health grow.
